Dark/Age Spots Laser Treatment

The laser treatment itself takes approximately 20 minutes and is mild - moderately uncomfortable. The sensation you feel is like a rubber band snapping on your skin. One treatment is often enough to be effective, but some people may want to do as many as three treatments depending on the level of sun damage.

 

Safe, fast, and effective.  Eliminates and clears discolored birthmarks-like spots on patient's skin, as well as freckles, age, and sunspots.

 

IMPORTANT:  All pigmented lesions should be checked by a Dermatologist to rule out potential malignancies

Recovery & Results:

Immediately post-laser treatment, the skin turns brown (darkening of the lesion,  redness, and swelling is expected.  You will feel like sunburn in the post-treated area. You may develop some scabs, blisters, or minor swelling around the treated areas for several days. The treated pigment will appear darker within the first few days, the darkened pigment will flake off like dry skin within 5-10 days. Any discoloration will slowly fade for 4-12 weeks.

You may require more than one treatment, depending on the severity of your condition and your desired results.

Pre & Post Dark/Age Spots Laser Treatment Instructions

Pre-treatment Instructions:

  • Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and 2 weeks after laser treatment. If you are in the sun during this time you should defer treatment until a later time.

  • Stop any topical medications, oral medications that may cause photosensitivity, (blood-thinning medications, antibiotics, Retin-A, or skincare products  1 week prior to treatment.  If you start a course of antibiotics you cannot have a laser treatment while on antibiotics, wait 1 week afterward. Do not take Accutane at a minimum of 6 months prior to laser treatment

  • If you are tanned or have a darker skin type, a bleaching regimen may be started 4-6 weeks before the treatment.

  • Recently Tanned skin cannot be treated! Tanned skin is more sensitive to heat without you knowing it, the client is at risk of burning, pigmentation, scarring, and serious damage of the skin, and less effective treatment. White spots may also develop after the treatment and this may not be clear for 2-3 months or longer. NO TANNING/SELF TANNING of the skin before, immediately, or before treatments. Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and 2-4 weeks after the treatment.  Discontinue the use of self-tanning skincare products 1 week prior to treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed prior to treatment.

  • No Laser treatment:

    • if you are pregnant or if you think you may be pregnant.

    • Patients who have impaired immune systems due to immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS, Lupus, Scleroderma, or the use of immunosuppressive medications.

    • Patients with a current or history of Skin cancer or premalignant moles.

    • Patients with the current condition of any type of cancer.

    • Patients who have a pacemaker or internal defibrillator.

    • Patients with any surgical procedure in the treatment area within the last three months or before complete healing.

    • Any active skin condition in the treatment area, such as sores: Psoriasis, Eczema, and rash.

  • The use of topical numbing cream is optional.  Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment if you wish to apply numbing cream, available for purchase.

    • Wet/moist white gauze will apply to protect the teeth and to support the lip during the treatment when treating the upper lip. Protective eyewear will be worn by the client and technician.

 

Post Treatment:

  • Immediate (tan/brown) darkening of the lesion, slight peri -lesional redness and swelling is expected, immediately post-treatment which may last up to 2 hours or longer, Redness may last up to 3 days. You’ll feel like sunburn on the treated area. Use cold gel packs chilled aloe vera gel to alleviate the discomfort.

  • The treated pigment will appear darker within the first few days, the darkened pigment will flake off like dry skin within 7-10 days.

  • We recommend using Recovery Regenerative solution, Repair Balm post any laser treatment.

  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation). Use Sunblock SPF 30  and above at all times, apply several times daily.

  • Makeup may be applied after the redness/irritation is cleared. Resume all topical agents when irritation resolves.

  • Avoid strenuous sports activities, hot yoga/saunas/ Jacuzzi for 2-3  days.

  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated area. Do not use any scrub loofahs or abrasive scrubs for 5 days.

  • If you will accidentally scratch the treated area and got swollen like an infected, apply antibiotic ointment, such reactions will slowly heal and returns to normal.
